The last time her nails were officially measured, their combined length reached an astonishing 42 feet and 10.4 inches, a truly remarkable and almost unbelievable feat.<\/p>\n

This extraordinary length reflects years of careful preservation and dedication.<\/p>\n

However, Armstrong has consistently refused to cut her long, talon-like nails, holding onto them for deeply emotional and sentimental reasons.<\/p>\n

Why Diana Armstrong grew the world\u2019s longest nails<\/h2>\n

The mom hasn\u2019t trimmed her nails since the tragic death of her 16-year-old daughter Latisha, who died from an asthma attack in 1997.<\/p>\n

Opening up, Armstrong said (per the\u00a0Daily Star): \u201cThat was the worst day of my\u00a0life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe day before, she\u2019d spent time polishing and filling my nails, so after that, I just couldn\u2019t cut my nails off.\u201d<\/p>\n

Latisha would manicure her mom\u2019s then-average-sized nails every weekend before her passing.<\/p>\n

The mom said she kept the reason why \u2018to myself for years,\u2019 adding: \u201cMy nails are a part of me. I can\u2019t ever imagine cutting them off.\u201d<\/p>\n

After learning the reason behind Armstrong\u2019s long talons, her daughter Rania said: \u201cIf that\u2019s her way of holding on to her, then I accept.\u201d<\/p>\n

How Diana Armstrong takes care of the world\u2019s longest nails<\/h2>\n

Nowadays, Armstrong\u2019s grandchildren act as her manicurists, with each nail taking \u2018about 10 hours to polish\u2019 and a woodwork tool being used to file them. She says it takes up to ten nail polish bottles to paint her talons and \u2018four days\u2019 to complete!<\/p>\n

But this isn\u2019t the only way the mom\u2019s extra-long nails have impacted her life.<\/p>\n

Armstrong struggles to zip her pants and jacket and needs a knife to open soda cans.<\/p>\n

The world record holder can no longer drive as her nails left her with no choice but \u2018to stick my hand out the window,\u2019 and she has to use the biggest stall when going to public bathrooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I go to a public restroom, I go to the stall that is the biggest. If someone is in that stall I have to wait until they\u2019ve finished and then go in because I can\u2019t use the smaller ones because my nails are longer than them,\u201d Armstrong told\u00a0Guinness World Records.<\/p>\n

She was recognized by the franchise earlier this year in an\u00a0Instagram\u00a0post.<\/p>\n

It reads: \u201cDiana Armstrong from Minnesota, U.S.A, holds the record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female) and the longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (female).<\/p>\n

\u201cMeasuring 1,306.58 cm (42 ft 10.4 in) the combined length of Diana\u2019s fingernails is longer than a standard yellow school bus!<\/p>\n

\u201cDiana has been growing her fingernails for over 25 years!<\/p>\n

\u201cDiana last cut her nails in 1997. But shortly after, a tragic accident rocked her family, and she vowed to never trim them again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The question everyone always asks about the world\u2019s longest nails<\/h2>\n

Like others with extremely long nails, Armstong finds she\u2019s always asked one (rather nosy) question in particular.<\/p>\n

People want to know how she goes to the toilet \u2013 but the mom insists, \u2018It\u2019ll be the same as anyone else going to the bathroom.\u2019<\/p>\n

She explains: \u201c\u2026 Just I work with my nails probably in a different way they\u2019d work with theirs. I use a lot of toilet paper. I don\u2019t wrap it around my hand as some people do, I can\u2019t do it like that, because it ain\u2019t going to work that way.\u201d<\/p>\n
