Conor McGregor speaks out after UFC 303 press event with Michael Chandler postponed

Conor McGregor has spoken out after his UFC 303 press event involving Michael Chandler was postponed on Monday.

The pair were due to come face-to-face at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland ahead of McGregor‘s comeback fight later this month on June 29.

The Irishman hasn’t stepped foot inside the Octagon since July 2021, when he broke his leg in a first-round stoppage defeat to Dustin Poirier.

A press event to build up the fight was set for Monday, but it was surprisingly postponed by the UFC just hours before it was due to get underway.

The UFC wrote in a statement: “Dear UFC Fans — The UFC 303 press conference scheduled for Monday June 3rd in Dublin, Ireland at 3Arena has been postponed until further notice.

“We sincerely apologise to all the fans who were planning to attend. When we have further information on a new date and time, we will share it immediately.”

Combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani later reported that the event had been cancelled on Sunday, with Chandler informed before he flew to Ireland.

Now, McGregor has moved to clear up the mystery surrounding the cancellation with his latest post on social media.

Taking to Twitter, he said: “In consultation with the UFC, today’s press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control.

“I apologise to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support.

“I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the Octagon.”

McGregor vs Chandler will be contested at welterweight – marking the Irishman’s return to the 170lbs division for the first time since his 2020 victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.

UFC 303 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, with McGregor vs Chandler headlining the event.
