Social media is calling for one team to be removed from one of the three NFL Thanksgiving Games on Nov. 28.
As per tradition, the Detroit Lions (vs. Chicago Bears) and Dallas Cowboys (vs. New York Giants) will host NFL Thanksgiving Games this year. The prime-time contest on “Sunday Night Football” will see the Miami Dolphins visiting Jordan Love’s Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys have been featured on the Thanksgiving Day slate every year since 1966, so the NFL isn’t going to change that. Nonetheless, there are plenty of calls from fans (and even Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio) for the league to take the struggling 3-5 Cowboys off of the Thanksgiving schedule:
Detroit and Dallas have a permanent hammerlock on Thanksgiving home games. Given the impending Giants-Cowboys turkey turd, how about a flex option in the future? https://t.co/m3kqQs6eD0

The NFL having the Giants vs Cowboys on Thanksgiving is a disservice to NFL fans… https://t.co/6qp6H3X5aG

@NFL…please flex the Thanksgiving game. That Cowboys-Giants game is gonna be absolute trash. “Tradition” can be changed. The Cowboys don’t need to be on Thanksgiving this season pic.twitter.com/33Eve6LjmE

somebody please flex Dallas out of all their prime time games, and flex anybody else into Thanksgiving too https://t.co/pxRhYssci1

Not that the Cowboys r exciting even wit Dak Prescott this year but man I rly don’t wanna watch Cooper Rush play on Thanksgiving, damn this sucks. This will also ensure Dallas doesn’t make the playoffs this year, seeing them potentially pick top 5 is insane..#DallasCowboys https://t.co/89pEKw71CP

But as fans who don’t cheer for big-market teams like the Cowboys, Giants, New York Jets or Chicago Bears, there’s just one issue: Viewership and money drive the NFL, and those teams draw high television ratings in prime-time games.
The Cowboys may be bad this year, and they may not have quarterback Dak Prescott for that game. But Dallas still has one of the biggest fanbases in the world, and the haters will watch no matter who’s playing in the NFL Thanksgiving games.
NFL Thanksgiving Games Could Be Duds This Year
The Cowboys-Giants game already looks like it’ll be meaningless this year. The Lions should handle the struggling 4-4 Bears easily, and the Packers will likely have no problem taking care off a disappointing 2-6 Dolphins team.
Add it all up, and it’s safe to say that this year’s trio of Thanksgiving games are bound to disappoint.
