Released in 2013, the movie featured several risqué scenes, which understandably made it a bit awkward for Robbie’s family to watch.
On the Screen Time podcast, Robbie revealed that she actually sat down to watch the film with her family.
Robbie mentioned that one of her brothers was so shocked by what he saw that he avoided speaking to her for three months.
“One of my brothers didn’t speak to me for three months afterwards—not because he was mad, he was just like: ‘I just need a minute before I can consider you my sister again!'”
To be fair, it’s easy to see why that could be an awkward viewing experience for family members.
Her manager had told her, “If there’s ever going to be a time for nudity, this is the director you do it with.”
In a 2014 interview with The Telegraph, Robbie shared that director Martin Scorsese had offered her the chance to preserve her modesty during the scene.
“I think nudity for the sake of nudity is shameful. If they’ve put it in just so that a girl gets her top off, then that’s disgusting. And you can always tell.
“But I also think it’s disgusting when someone would have gotten naked in real life, and in the film, they conveniently leave their bra on or hold up the bed sheet.
She continued, “The whole point of Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world.
Adding, “She’s laying her cards on the table.”
