Johnny Depp overhauled his image and revealed a new set of teeth after his dental health resulted in him being ridiculed.
Depp has become one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars and is known for films such as Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands.
Outside of acting, he’s also considered a heartthrob, having been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive twice.
Yet over the last year, Depp’s appearance has come under scrutiny.
The A-lister’s dental state garnered unwanted attention during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where he promoted Jeanne du Barry.
As Depp posed for photos on the red carpets, fans noticed his teeth showed clear signs of decay – which stands out against the many Hollywood stars who’ve opted for expensive veneers or composite bonding.
Concerned, some fans took to X (formerly Twitter) and urged The Rum Diary star to go to the dentist.
One person remarked: “Johnny Depp needs to see a dentist. His teeth make him look unhealthy.”
Another added: “Johnny Depp’s teeth appear to be rotting.”
Somebody else commented: “Someone needs to go to the dentist…”
“He turned into Captain Jack Sparrow for real,” mocked a fourth.
After Depp’s ‘rotting’ teeth went viral, celebrity dentist Dr. Apa suggested it was possibly a result of ‘aggressive’ wear and tear.
Dr. Apa told Page Six the actor’s dental health was likely due to a fondness for espresso and cigarillos, adding: “He’s worn his teeth down so much.”
Based on previous comments, many presumed Depp would never be interested in extreme dental work.
After all, he once said in an interview with Premiere magazine: “When I see people with perfect teeth, it drives me up the wall.
“I’d rather swallow a tick than have that.”
Yet it appears Depp’s attitude towards the matter has changed.
Fans noticed the actor’s pearly whites in an Instagram snap of him making drinks with a bartender.
Reacting to the new look, one fan says: “Johnny Depp looks good with his new teeth.”
In agreement, a second person comments: “Looks so much better.”
“I’m very happy for him and this will make a HUGE difference in his overall health! Bravo Johnny!” enthuses someone else.
According to Radar Online sources, Depp’s new choppers are just the beginning of an entire body makeover.
An insider says: “He wants to build up muscle and maybe have some nip/tucks.
“He’s finally going to do something about that pot belly, not to mention investing in some beauty rituals to polish up his skin, hair, and general appearance.”
The dental makeover is also said to be down to health concerns, with Depp having ‘no choice’ but to fix his knashers.
A source tells In Touch Weekly: “He had no choice, his teeth were rotten to the bone and his breath reeked, and it was either veneers or risk some serious health problems, like infection and maybe even heart disease.”
Many may not realize it, but good dental hygiene is essential for overall health. It can prevent infections, reduce the risk of serious health conditions, and significantly affect your self-esteem.
