Woman Left In Tears After Finding Out The True Meaning Of Tattoo She Got On Vacation

A woman has been left in tears after discovering the true meaning of the tattoo she got on vacation.

One Australian TikTok user has shared her regret after getting a tattoo while away on a trip despite not knowing the meaning of it.

Many people choose to get new ink on vacation as a way to create a permanent reminder of a special trip they have been on.

Being in holiday-mode can feel like you have no cares in the world, offering a break from the realities of day-to-day life.

But for some, not having family and friends’ voices of reason to talk them out of getting permanent art on their skin makes people think a lot less of the consequences.

TikToker Amy Dickson shared a video of herself in floods of tears after deciding to get some ink on her upper thigh to commemorate her adventure.

Dickson pleaded to her 960,000 followers to translate her body modification, which she had done whilst vacationing in Fiji.

Fiji is a tropical island nation located in Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean and, in 2023, it had a record number of 929,740 visitors.

Many people are drawn there due to its beautiful natural attractions and the friendly local population – or, so Dickson thought…

The Australian woman was in tears as she shared: “I didn’t know that Fijians could be so mean because now I’ve got a tattoo and I don’t even know what it means!”

She pleads for help: “So can someone tell me what I have on my body, please?”

People in the comments did not seem to share any sympathy for her.

One writes: “Why would you get a tattoo without knowing what it means!”

Another adds: “Google is free, why couldn’t you translate it before getting it?”

“I didn’t know people actually got tattoos without knowing the meaning,” a third responds.

A user else questions: “Did someone forcefully tattoo on you or was that your own free will?”

Some TikTok users even believed that the tattoo was fake.

Dickson responded to this accusation by making a follow-up video showcasing the tattoo on her leg in the mirror.

Other viewers took to the comment section to write that the people of Fiji are not ‘mean’ and that the translation of the ink is not as harmful as she might have thought.

There seems to be conflicting ideas on what ‘Matanivola Levu’ means in English, though, with one commenter claiming that it means someone is like a ‘big book.’

“‘Big Book’ in Fijian can translate to mean you have many stories to tell, which is a way of saying you have many adventures,” they said.

Another user backed this up, saying: “Matanivola levu means that you are like a big book which is like you have so many stories to share and tell. It’s nothing bad dw.”

But others claim that the words translate to ‘capital letter.’

One user writes: “That’s actually hilarious – it says ‘capital letters’ but it’s all lowercase… Brilliant.”

Someone else responded: “That’s ‘capital letter’ in Fijian.”
