It’s spooky season—a time for fun, scares, and a bit of darkness. During this time of year, we expect to see creepy decorations everywhere. It’s not yet time for the cheerful holiday season.
Just because Halloween is coming up doesn’t mean we can’t spread some kindness. A Halloween enthusiast shared a heartwarming message in a TikTok video that has become super popular.
Salena Webb, a mom of four from South Carolina, really loves Halloween. Like many people, she enjoys decorating her yard with spooky stuff. Salena went all out and created a graveyard scene in her front yard, featuring ghosts, spiderwebs, pumpkins, a witch, tombstones, and even skeletons carrying a casket. Setting up this display took her a lot of time. However, when her neighbor asked her to take it down, she agreed to do so.
Her neighbor asked her to remove some decorations to make things easier for his elderly father.
Salena posted a TikTok video about a moment when her neighbor came over with a special request. In the video, the neighbor said, “Hey, I know you’re getting ready for Halloween. My dad just found out he has lung cancer, and he thinks your decorations are a bit too spooky.” He pointed to the graveyard setup and asked, “Could you please take the casket out?”
Right away, Salena felt for him. Since her neighbor’s dad often hangs out in his garage, which looks out at her yard, she understood why it was important to remove the casket. “I didn’t want to remind him of what could happen if his dad doesn’t get better,” she told Insider. “I didn’t want to add more stress to their lives.”
So, Salena took out the casket and gave the skeletons badminton rackets instead. She moved the scarier decorations to her backyard. “At first, I felt a little sad,” Salena wrote in her TikTok caption, “But then I realized that taking away the casket wouldn’t hurt me, but it might help my neighbor feel a bit better during this tough time. Kindness is free, and being compassionate really matters.”
Many people applauded Salena for her thoughtfulness. She shared the video and asked her followers what they would have done in her place. While some said they wouldn’t have changed their decorations, a lot of people praised Salena for her caring attitude.
“Now this is what being a good neighbor is all about. Kindness doesn’t cost anything. Thank you!” one user commented.
Another person wrote, “This was beautifully handled. The world needs more people like you! God bless you!”
Salena’s neighbor also appreciated her gesture. After she took down the casket, she brought him a card and some balloons. Even though there was a language barrier between them, she could tell he was thankful. He told her, “You’re good people.”
