Leerdam has sparked controversy for opting to travel to the Milan Winter Olympics by private jet. The vast majority of athletes always join their national teammates for the journey.

The 27-year-old shared several photos of herself and friends partying on the private Kimi flight with the caption “Off to Milano,” on Instagram. That turned out to be a bad decision. Jutta Leerdam was greeted on the jet with custom flags and handmade cupcakes bearing a message of support.

Jutta Leerdam, who was crying her eyes out at the Olympic Trials, shared footage and photographs of her luxurious flight to the Olympics. Leerdam’s decision to shun the team transport has drawn sharp criticism from Dutch commentators ahead of her Olympic campaign.
Legendary Dutch soccer player turned sports reporter Johan Derksen took exception to the Olympian’s behavior.
“(Leerdam) should want it of her own accord. She’s already living like a millionaire, with private jets and everything,” Derksen said, according to the Daily Mail. “Her behavior is horrible to me, like that of a diva. If I were her coach, I wouldn’t tolerate that,” Derksen added.
“Gradually, the whole of the Netherlands is starting to get a bit fed up with her behavior.”
The 2026 Milano-Cortina Games will mark Leerdam’s second Olympic appearance. She is more than just a pretty girl. Jutta earned the silver medal in women’s 1000 meters at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The second-ranked speed skater in the world is now looking for her first gold in both the 1000m and 500m speed skating events.
