Alysha Newman won’t be twerking anytime soon after she was suspended this week. The Athletics Integrity Unit has provisionally suspended the 2024 Olympic bronze medalist for Whereabouts Failures. A whereabouts failure is an anti-doping rule violation. It kicks in if an athlete fails to accurately report or be available at their specified location for out-of-competition testing.
It consists of either a missed test or a filing failure. Any combination of three such failures within a 12-month period can lead to a suspension. This news was reported on February 4, 2026, as part of an announcement from Athletics Canada.
Athletics Canada, the national governing body for track and field, confirmed the suspension in a release on Wednesday.
“This is an unfortunate situation, and Athletics Canada hopes to see Alysha Newman back as part of our National Team Program when she is eligible,” the organization said in a statement.
Alysha Newman has gone viral many times over the years. They usually had nothing to do with her sport.
