Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane in Sarasota County near Siesta Key, Florida

Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida as over two million power outages were reported across the state.

After making landfall as a Category 3 storm, Milton dropped to a Category 2 hurricane at around 10pm EDT. Its winds were steadfastly holding at 120 mph throughout the evening before dipping to a 110 mph.

Flood warnings and in some cases, emergencies, have been issued across Florida as officials urge residents to stay in their shelters. Tornado warnings were also issued throughout the day, the impact of which is still to be determined.

Florida’s Martin County Fire Rescue reports injuries and home damage

While no fatalities have been reported at this time, Florida’s Martin County Fire Rescue shared on Twitter that injuries and home damage from Milton have occurred.

“It’s estimated that dozens of homes have been damaged, some severely,” they wrote. “There have been minor/serious injuries, however, there have been no fatalities reported at this time. Please STAY OFF roads & if you need to travel, avoid US 1.”
