Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘naked dress’ turns heads at the Golden Globes

When Jennifer Lawrence stepped onto the red carpet at the 2026 Golden Globes, the Hollywood star didn’t just make an entrance.

She sparked a discussion that had fans rushing to support her.

Her trendy “naked dress”

Award ceremonies might be about winning trophies, but for people watching at home, the red carpet is usually where the real excitement happens.

For instance, who could forget last year’s Grammys, when a serious and fully dressed Kanye West stood beside his 30-year-old girlfriend, Australian model Bianca Censori, as she took off a big fur coat to show off a bold, skin-tight, see-through outfit?

And at this year’s Golden Globes, it was Jennifer Lawrence who found herself in the spotlight after showing up in a sheer, floral-embroidered dress that quickly split opinions online.

The reason the actress went to the event was her nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor, thanks to her powerful role as Grace — a young mom in rural Montana struggling with postpartum depression and psychosis in Die My Love.

But, as mentioned, it was her bold outfit that grabbed all the attention.

The Oscar recipient donned what many referred to as a contemporary “naked dress,” a style that gained fame when Beyoncé wore it at the 2015 Oscars. Lawrence’s rendition, crafted by Givenchy’s creative director Sarah Burton, showcased intricate pink, ivory, and green floral embroidery that softened the translucent fabric, imparting a romantic, nearly vintage aesthetic.

The ensemble instantly attracted attention. However, not all opinions were favorable.

“Perhaps they should implement a dress code or schedule the award ceremonies after children are asleep,” one individual remarked.

Came to her defense

Yet, as swiftly as the critics voiced their opinions, Lawrence’s admirers came to her defense.

“The only permissible revival of the naked dress. Classy and sophisticated,” one supporter commented on X.

Another concurred, simply stating: “Indeed. I genuinely appreciate it.”

Others lauded both the garment’s design and Lawrence’s poise.

“When you consider it, we are all essentially unclothed beneath our garments. She appears stunning, and the dress is not as revealing as some suggest. People tend to nitpick about trivial matters; embracing life to the fullest is the essence of free will,” one individual expressed.

“This dress is quite revealing, yet it is the most exquisite revealing dress I have ever encountered! Moreover, she possesses the physique to carry it off. Absolutely breathtaking!” remarked one admirer.

A fourth enthusiast provided a more detailed perspective, stating:

“This is the kind of revealing dress that is socially acceptable, visually appealing, and sparks the imagination as intended. Jennifer Lawrence appears tastefully alluring yet romantic simultaneously in this sheer Givenchy gown, reminiscent of Halle Berry’s Ellie Saab dress from the Oscars in 2002. The color palette is excellent for Jennifer. This is my favorite look to date.”

Lawrence’s response

Lawrence herself appeared unbothered by the attention. While on the red carpet, she humorously addressed her daring outfit when questioned about attending after-parties.

“I’m going to hang out. I’m naked, I might as well,” she told Entertainment Tonight, before chuckling about her children’s response. “They would prefer I not be here.”

The actress has always been forthright in her expressions, and this candor extends beyond her fashion choices. Prior to the Golden Globes, Lawrence also shared her thoughts on filming intimate scenes for her projects, including her latest collaboration with Robert Pattinson, Die My Love.

In an interview with People, she acknowledged that filming those scenes with someone she was not well acquainted with actually facilitated the process.

“It was indeed easier that way, as Rob and I were unfamiliar with each other. Which is somewhat advantageous, you know?” she remarked.
“Just think about it! So yes, collaborating with a stranger is more desirable.”

She will reprise her role in The Hunger Games.

She also reminisced about how unpredictable the first day of filming turned out to be.

“There were these actors, and they were attacking each other like tigers,” Lawrence recounted. “And we were like, ‘Alright, yes,’ and she was like, ‘Can you do it naked, yeah?’ [mimicking director Lynne Ramsay’s Scottish accent]. We were like, ‘Oh, alright,’ and that was the very first day on set.”

Lawrence’s character in Die My Love evidently struck a chord with her personally, as she has candidly shared her own battles with postpartum depression following the birth of her second child.

“I’m not an actor who brings the work home,” she expressed to Vogue. “It’s partly due to hormonal imbalance, but she’s also experiencing an identity crisis — who am I as a mother, as a wife, as a sexual being? She’s tormented by this sensation that she’s fading away. The only way for me to access some of this raw emotion was to draw from my own experiences.”

With her striking attire and commanding presence, Jennifer Lawrence is already making 2026 impossible to overlook.

At the age of 35, she is embarking on an exhilarating new phase both in her professional and personal life. Her forthcoming endeavors feature The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026), in which she reprises her role as the legendary Katniss Everdeen, as well as Martin Scorsese’s haunting new horror film What Happens at Night, where she will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
