Optical illusions can really mess with your mind. No matter how hard you try to avoid being “fooled” by them, it’s nearly impossible because it all comes down to how your brain works. Recently, one such optical illusion that has left the internet scratching its head is a photo of six girls lounging on a couch. Yet, there are only five pairs of legs visible. How can that be? Let’s dig deeper!
Optical illusions always leave me confused – and now, one of them is confusing the whole internet too. According to the Queensland Brain Institute, an optical illusion occurs “when our brain and eyes attempt to communicate in simple terms, but the interpretation gets a little jumbled.”
It also stated, “For instance, it may think our eyes have indicated that something is moving, but that’s not the message the eyes intended to convey to the brain. (Our brains and eyes have developed to be very alert to movement because, in ancient times, being able to detect movement quickly was crucial. A small rustle in the bushes could signal that a predator was nearby, and it was time to escape. Spotting movement early could literally save your life!)
On Reddit, one optical illusion has become a sensation. The image depicts six girls sitting on a couch, but only five pairs of legs are visible. It looks like one girl is missing a pair of legs, and users on the forum have been trying to figure out the mystery.

According to The Tab, one person commented, “The second girl’s legs are behind the first girl’s legs,” which means that the girl sitting second from the left is hiding her legs behind the one who is sitting farthest to the left. You can’t see it – but that’s what makes it a brain teaser.
Optical illusion – find the ‘missing’ legs
Another user tackled the optical illusion and seemed to have figured it out. User ElMangosto posted his own picture with the solution.
“From left to right, #1, #2, #3, #4. Number 1 has her legs crossed, and there’s no tear in her knee. Number 2 only shows one leg, and there’s a tear in her knee. Those legs are blending together. (If you follow that tear down, you’ll see a split where there’s a sock on the right and none on the left. Number 2 has a tear in her knee and a visible white sock.) Numbers 2 and 3 are leaning way over. It’s easier to picture if you imagine #3 with her hand on the seat behind #4’s back to hold herself up,” he explained, and included the “solution.”

Does it make sense? If it doesn’t, it helps me understand how to see it. Maybe we can finally solve this mystery! Please share this article with your friends on Facebook and see if they can figure out the optical illusion.
