Texas State Expels Student Over Kirk Vigil Stunt

A shocking controversy at Texas State University—
A student has been expelled after mocking the assassination attempt on conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Reports say Devion Canty Jr. staged a disturbing reenactment during a vigil on campus, pretending to be shot in the neck before collapsing to the ground. The act sparked outrage across Texas, with Governor Greg Abbott himself calling for the student’s removal.

University President Kelly Damphousse condemned the incident as “reprehensible” and confirmed that Canty is no longer enrolled at the university.

In response, Canty launched a GoFundMe, claiming he made a mistake in the “heat of the moment.” He said he withdrew from Texas State for safety reasons, not by choice, and now hopes to continue his education elsewhere.

This incident has ignited a national debate over free expression, accountability, and the limits of protest on college campuses.
