Melania Trump’s latest look sparks both applause and backlash – Dotnetal

Melania Trump has been staying out of the spotlight during the first few months of Donald Trump’s second term, but recently, she has started to show up more in public.

At the latest White House Picnic, it was not Trump who captured everyone’s attention — it was the First Lady.

With summer approaching, First Lady Melania Trump made a return to the public eye on June 12 — turning heads as she joined the crowd for the 2025 Congressional Picnic. The usually private wife of President Trump surprised many by showing up, making it one of her few outings this year.

The 55-year-old former model was seen on the South Lawn for the annual event and received immediate praise from her husband, who told the audience:

“I want to thank our magnificent First Lady for putting together this wonderful evening.”

Known for being private and fiercely protecting her son Barron’s privacy, Melania was spotted smiling in a neat white blouse and striking floral pants as she interacted with the guests.

According to USA Today, Melania welcomed guests at the event dressed in floral cotton jacquard pants by Dolce & Gabbana and pink suede pumps from Manolo Blahnik — a stylish summer outfit that definitely caught people’s attention.

Later that day, she was seen talking with guests — and the photos quickly spread online, igniting a lively debate on social media.

Some users praised her fresh look, with one saying: “Melania is 100% Class! Trump and Melania are the ideal couple that all lovebirds should look up to.” Another commented, “Tonight might have been the best I’ve seen Melania look. Her hair was perfect. [Her] dress was simple but elegant. Always smiling. 10/10.”

However, not everyone was so kind.

The question “Is That Bruce Jenner?” started trending soon after the event photos were posted. Critics took to social media, with some claiming Melania’s new style looked a lot like Caitlyn Jenner, who was previously known as Bruce. “At first glance, I thought I saw Caitlyn Jenner…” one Facebook user noted.

This isn’t the first time that comparisons have made the news.

An Instagram account brought back old pictures of Caitlyn after her transition next to photos of Melania, leading to comments like, “Melania and Bruce Jenner look surprisingly similar,” and, “They DO look alike. How strange. I’ve always thought Melania looks….husky. Not soft or feminine, and definitely not sweet. She has a masculine vibe, and their facial features are alike. It’s true.”

On the other hand, some people strongly disagreed with that statement. One person responded directly, “Melania looks NOTHING like Bruce Jenner!” while another just said, “Oh p*ss off.”

As for the president, he kept praising her — not only for her appearance but also for her recent efforts on new laws.

During his speech, Trump mentioned her role in the Take It Down Act, a law aimed at getting rid of nonconsensual explicit content online: “I want to thank you Melania and thank you everyone out there. When I saw that bill passed with support from both parties, I thought, ‘You know, I think you’re going to take my job.’

Melania Trump’s clothing choices are always being closely examined — leading to endless discussions online, with many people thinking her outfits send subtle messages about her true feelings. As Women’s Wear Daily pointed out, her fashion changed a lot after she became First Lady — moving from glamorous runway styles to more modest and conservative outfits.

After 2016, she was often spotted in Ralph Lauren, Valentino, and Burberry.

During Trump’s 2024 campaign, she started wearing brands like Michael Kors and Dior — but her fashion still sparks mixed opinions.

Although Melania Trump has a talent for blending high-end fashion with some affordable pieces, her outfit at the swearing-in ceremony earlier this year surprised everyone. She wore a sleek black dress with a now-famous wide-brim hat, which was a big change from the soft, Jackie Kennedy-style light blue dress she wore at Donald Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.

Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw, the head of the History of Art Department at the University of Pennsylvania, looked closely at the image and remarked:

“[Melania] stands confidently behind that really shiny table, creating a little space between her and the person looking at her.”

Another viewer shared a similar opinion: “I think she probably doesn’t have a gentle side. If she does, she never reveals it. It would be great if she did.”
