Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are celebrating a major family milestone after welcoming their fourth child together.
The couple announced Sunday that their newborn son, Alec Neel Vance, had arrived safely, sharing the news in a joint statement posted on X.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,” the statement read. “Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
The vice president and second lady also expressed gratitude to the medical teams who cared for their family during the delivery, thanking physicians and staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as well as the White House Medical Unit for their support throughout the pregnancy and birth.
The newest addition joins the couple’s three older children: sons Ewan and Vivek, along with daughter Mirabel.
JD and Usha Vance, who married in 2014, publicly revealed earlier this year that they were expecting another child. In a January announcement, the couple shared that they were looking forward to welcoming a baby boy during the summer while thanking the military medical professionals who have cared for their family during the vice president’s time in office.
The birth also marks a rare historical moment. According to historical records, the Vances are believed to be the first sitting vice presidential family to welcome a child while serving in office since Vice President Schuyler Colfax and his wife, Ellen, celebrated the birth of their son in 1870 during President Ulysses S. Grant’s administration.
The happy news comes months after the couple addressed online speculation surrounding their marriage.
Rumors surfaced in late 2025 after Usha Vance appeared at several public events without wearing her wedding ring, prompting widespread social media discussion. A representative later dismissed the speculation, explaining that the busy mother of three often removed her ring while caring for young children and occasionally forgot to put it back on.
JD Vance also brushed off the rumors during an interview, insisting their relationship remained strong and revealing that the couple had laughed about the online reaction.
He recalled that Usha even joked before one public appearance that forgetting her ring would inevitably spark another round of internet speculation. Rather than letting the gossip bother them, he said they chose to view it with humor.
Usha Vance has previously spoken openly about building a family, saying that she and her husband always envisioned becoming parents. While they initially expected to have two children, she admitted that once they experienced parenthood, they found themselves wanting to continue growing their family.
Now, with the arrival of baby Alec, the Vances begin a new chapter as a family of six while continuing their roles in the White House.
