The distressing incident unfolded around 11:15AM when the former talk show host, 60, dropped a note from her fifth-floor window that read, “Help! Wendy!!”

Law enforcement sources told The New York Post that officers responded to the wellness check call and soon after, Williams was seen at her window, waving her arms while speaking on the phone.

Shortly after, the former Wendy Williams Show star silently exited the facility, flanked by police officers, and was assisted into an ambulance.

Hospital Evaluation Raises More Questions

Per The NY Post, Williams was transported to Lenox Hill Hospital, where she underwent a psychological evaluation, reportedly scoring a “10 out of 10” on a “capacity test.”

According to TMZ, the test is used to determine if a person is mentally alert and oriented, often assessing basic cognitive function through simple questions like birthdate, address, and current events.

Despite her guardianship battle and a previous diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, the evaluation suggested her mental capacity is intact. However, doctors allegedly did not conduct additional tests that could confirm or dispute her dementia diagnosis.

The results of the test will reportedly be sent to the judge overseeing her guardianship case.

A Long Fight for Freedom

Williams has been under court-ordered guardianship since 2022, with her legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, previously stating in court filings that Williams had “become cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and incapacitated” due to dementia.

The TV icon, however, has vehemently denied these claims.

In a recent phone interview with TMZ, she insisted she is being held in a “prison” and is “not allowed” to leave of her own free will.

Her guardianship battle saw a potential breakthrough last month when Morrissey informed a judge that she would be open to Williams undergoing a new medical evaluation — a small win in the star’s fight to regain control over her life.

What’s Next for Wendy?

The hospital visit came just days before Williams was set to make her first return to television since her Wendy Williams Show hiatus four years ago.

She was expected to appear on The View on Friday, WBLS reports, though it remains unclear if the incident will impact those plans.

Suzanne Bass, Williams’ former co-executive producer, had teased the TV appearance in an Instagram post on Sunday, writing: “Prepping a very special friend for her appearance @theviewabc to air this Friday. #freewendy.”

The hashtag “#freewendy” has now been adopted by many of Williams’ dedicated fans on social media calling for the star to be released from her guardianship.

Williams’ phone interview with the popular show will also feature Ginalisa Monterroso, the founder and president of Connect Care Advisory Group.

For now, fans remain in suspense over what will come next for Williams as she continues to push for independence.
