Buffy the Vampire Slayer is reportedly getting a long awaited reboot after 22 years. Nature is healing.
The show previously ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, but it seems Buffy’s work isn’t done and she is imminently returning to take on more vampires, demons, and the occasional giant praying manti.
Fans of the supernatural series can really celebrate as lead star Sarah Michelle Gellar would be reprising her role as Buffy Summers if it goes ahead.
To make things even sweeter Chloé Zhao, who won an Oscar for Nomadland, is said to be directing.
Deadline reports that the followup series is nearing a pilot order from Hulu. It is also said that a writing room is being planned to commence soon which indicates that they have high hopes the show will make it to TV.
Whether or not the other cast members of ‘the best show of all time’ will be joining Sarah, 47, is yet to be clear but it is ‘considered likely’.

Billed as the next chapter in the Buffyverse, it would be the third in the franchise as the original show also led to spinoff Angel from 1999-2004, with David Boreanaz as the lead star.
The new offering would be executive produced by Sarah, Chloé, Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman, with the latter two also writing the show. The original series’ executive producers Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui would also be back.
The good news doesn’t end there as Dolly Parton (yes, the Dolly Parton) would also be on the executive producer team as her company Sandollar worked on the original.
Buffy creator Joss Whedon has no involvement in the reboot. He faced misconduct allegations in 2021 and has not worked in the industry since.

Sarah sneakingly left an easter egg for hardcore fans on Instagram when she recently posted a photo in a pair of sushi PJs.
This was a nod to the season four episode Goodbye Iowa in which Buffy shares her plans to hunt down a demon who killed a child before adding: ‘That probably would have sounded more commanding if I wasn’t wearing my yummy sushi pajamas.’
‘And every Buffy fan just collectively screamed out loud,’ commented Horror_babe1989 under the image. ‘OMG I THOUGHT THIS WAS A HINT!!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!!! I might pass out! I can’t even I CAN’T EVEN,’ added an excited Martin357uki.
Emma Caulfield Ford, who was in the scene as character Anya Jenkins, liked the post and added multiple heart emojis.

This comes after Sarah expressed interest in returning to the titular role in 2023.
‘It’s funny, I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect,’ she said.
‘But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, “Well, maybe.”‘ These comments are said to have led to the negotiations for a new series beginning.

The iconic vampire series is centered on badass slayer Buffy taking down evil creatures and protecting her friends/earth itself.
Of course, Buffy also made time to fall in love, keep up with school work and set the fashion agenda. She was one busy woman.
She also had some helping hands in the form of her high school friends Willow (Alyson Hannigan), Xander (Nicholas Brendon) and her mentor (and school librarian) Rupert Giles (Anthony Head).
The episodes featured love dilemas, ghastly enemies, gritty action sequences and plenty of emotional suckerpunches.
